   Disc Information

Common terminology and information for  both this site & my Ebay listings

Abbreviations HDCD Original Discs v. CDRs
  Availability Imports Remastered Discs
Condition
   Abbreviations
OOP = OUT OF PRINT    JPN = JAPANESE
HTF = HARD TO FIND   IMP = IMPORT
     s/t = SAME TITLE

  Imports
Any CD that says in the description "IMPORT", Japanese or otherwise, is in ENGLISH as the regular Domestic ones are.  The lyrics and artwork are all the same and in English. They are usually more desirable due to the superior mastering on a lot of them.

  Remastered Discs
REMASTERED means that it is the original recordings which have been REMASTERED.   In other words, they have usually taken the ORIGINAL LABEL MASTER TAPES and REMASTERED them into the digital format for FAR SUPERIOR SOUND QUALITY.

A lot of the older CDs were rushed released and they used poor quality reference masters. The newer Remasters not only benefit from the original first generation mix-down masters but the newer technology in equipment that is available recently has improved the sound quality dramatically. These are NOT re-recordings. They are the original recordings.

  HDCD
This is a format in CD mastering that improves on sound quality and adds to the band width available.  Any CD that says HDCD plays fine on any CD player, but sounds even better on a player with HDCD compatibility.

  Condition

I buy a lot of discs direct from labels in EUROPE & GERMANY who do not seal their product.  The USA and JAPAN are the only countries that seal all their product, for theft discouraging purposes mostly.

I also buy  from USA Distributors that take the shrink-wrap off so buyers can't return the discs as new product for a new product refund.  If a disc says NEW/UNSOLD it is NEW/UNSOLD.  It is not used merchandise, even if it is not sealed.

All other descriptions are pretty self explanatory but below is a good in-depth chart so there are no misunderstandings.

Condition Meaning
SEALED, UNOPENED

NEW, never played or opened. TOTALLY SEALED

NEW, UNSOLD IN MINT CONDITION

NEW, never played or re-sold, No marks, Unsealed

MINT, NEW CONDITION Looks in NEW Condition, No marks

NEAR-MINT, NEW CONDITION Looks in NEW CONDITION, may have a speck that was on disc from factory

MINT CONDITION Could have been played but no marks to inserts or disc

NEAR-MINT CONDITION Could have been played with maybe a spec or two

EXCELLENT CONDITION Probably played.  Used disc with some lite marks, none that affect play.

VERY GOOD CONDITION

Surface wear or noticeable insert wear but plays perfectly. (I sell no discs that are un-playable)

HOLE IN CASE CORNER
HOLE IN UPC LABEL
SLIT IN EDGE OF CASE
SLIT IN BACK PAPER INSERTS
STAMP ON COVER
This should be self -explanatory.  If the listing says it MAY have any of these things, the item will have it.  Stamp on cover is a promo stamp that is placed there by the record label designating promo issue.

  Availability
A large portion of what I sell are hard-to-find, collectible and imported CDs.   I have only one, maybe two of many of the items on this site.   All items are offered  on a first-come-first-served basis.   What you see today may not be on the site  tomorrow.  I do not hold discs.

  Original Discs vs. CDRs
I do not sell CDR's so anything you are purchasing is a regular CD, unless it was released by the artist independently as a CDR.  This will be noted in the condition as such.

If there are any promo slits, holes in upc or record club issues it will be disclosed in the condition section, which is at the end of the information on the item detail page.
